Anyone is welcome to use the collections and materials in the Map Library. Due to the unique and historical nature of cartographic collections, some collections are kept in secure storage only accessible by staff.

Preparing for your visit
Scanning, printing, and saving
- Feed-through sheet scanner (up to 44" wide) and flat-bed scanners (up to 11" x 17") are available to use free of charge. Scanners are for use only with library materials.
- Printing is available for a fee. Please see our Printing Services page for more information.
- Digitized map files can be large. Saving to a flash drive or uploading to cloud-based storage is recommended.
Workstation access
UMN Affiliates and Friends of the Library have unlimited access to library workstations. Non-UMN Affiliates will need to stop by the service desk on the 1st Floor of Wilson Library to obtain a computer workstation card. For more information, please see the Library Computers page.
