About
Jessica Abbazio's portfolio includes collection development, instruction, reference, and outreach at the University of Minnesota Music Library. In addition to her work in supporting teaching and learning in the School of Music, Jessica also serves as the Collections Coordinator for Arts, Humanities, & Area Studies. She contributes to strategic planning, policy formulation, and implementation for the University Libraries collections, and provides leadership in collection development and management functions for disciplines included in her coordinating area.
Prior to her arrival at the University of Minnesota, she completed a Ph.D. in Musicology at the University of Maryland, where she studied Italian-language comic opera of the mid-eighteenth century and the music of Antonio Salieri, and a Master of Library Science with a specialization in Music Librarianship at Indiana University, Bloomington. Jessica’s research in the fields of information science and librarianship has centered on public engagement, outreach, information literacy, and collection development, and she is a recipient of the Music Library Association's Richard S. Hill Award for the best article on music librarianship or article of a music-bibliographic nature.
Jessica is the current editor of the New Periodicals column of Notes: The Quarterly Journal of the Music Library Association, and is an active member of the national Music Library Association and of the organization's Midwest Chapter. On the national level, Jessica is a member of the Music Library Association's Board of Directors, serving as the Assistant Fiscal Officer (2024-2025) / Fiscal Officer (2025-2026), and she holds membership on the Reference & Access Services Subcommittee. She also serves on the Midwest Chapter's Membership Committee.
